  • Dear Shell,

I am in the process of finishing my basement. I thought of heating my concrete floor. My plan is to put a subfloor using 1"x1" strapping approximately 12" apart with 1" sheathing. In between the strapping I want to lay in heating pipe which would be connected to a small heating tank, circulating pump and a thermostat to regulate the heat. Does this sound like an OK idea? Are there any particular guidelines I need to follow? What are your comments?

    Thanks, Brian

    Dear Brian,

This is not an adequate system as outlined. Why not use your forced air furnace?

    1. Have a return air duct in the basement installed to your furnace.

    2. If you send your fax number we can fax you a basement finishing detail sheet our fax number is 604-542-2237.

    3. Also consider the Delta FL System for your floor phone 1-800-465-1668 for details. This will warm your basement as well as be budget conscious.

    It’s just that easy.
