  • Dear Shell,

I installed a heavy birch door, previously used inside, on the south side of my garage for an entrance door. It is covered with a varnish or varathane-like coating. I want to waterproof it now. How do I go about preparing it, and what is the best product to put on?

    Thanks, Ken

    Dear Ken,

Wash the door with my Shell Busey’s Home Cleaning Formula using a pot scrubber pad and rinse well. When the door is dry it should have a dull appearance. Apply two coats of Flecto Varathane Diamond Exterior finish in semi gloss. Don’t forget to do the top, bottom and sides of the door. Apply weatherstripping after 1 week curing time.

    It’s just that easy.
