  • Dear Shell,

I have a cedar chest that is weeping inside and I am wondering if I can redo the inside so that it may hold my clothes again.

    Thanks, Pat

    Dear Pat,

Using super fine steel wool rub the entire inside surface down with pure turpentine. Just dip the steel wool into the turpentine and rub. Next wash the entire area with my Shell Busey Home Cleaning Formula (medium mix) and rinse well. Allow to dry. Sand entire area with 150 grit sandpaper and vacuum out. Allow to remain open until the turpentine odor has gone. For the final process mix 50% Methyl Hydrate with 50% white Shellac. Apply 1 coat with a paint brush to the entire inside of chest.

    It’s just that easy.
