  • Dear Shell,

I am familiar with your advice to use the diamond mesh when installing ceramic tile on vinyl floor. My local store suggests that by using a product called Flexbond I can install directly to the vinyl without the metal lathe. Any advice from you would be most appreciated.

    Thanks, Peter

    Dear Peter,

Flexbond is a great product but it does not stabilize the subfloor substrate. Staple down the wire lath mesh and then apply the Flexbond to the level of the mesh. Apply your tile with thin set mortar adhesive. Don’t gamble with just the Flexbond.

    It’s just that easy.
