- Cleaning the glass on your gas fireplace

Dear Shell,

I was wondering if you know of a way to clean the glass on gas fireplaces? I have tried the manufacturers suggestions, warm, soapy water - no results, no abrasives (i.e. Windex etc.) vinegar & water - no results. It is almost as if the glass if ruined. Can you help? Once the glass gets warm, the glass always looks dirty-- there must be something these places use or maybe I have to replace the glass -- fireplaces are only 10 years old.

Thanks, Terry

Dear Terry,

The residual of moisture when you start your fireplace is from the outside air coming down the stack or through the direct vent pipe. When heated the warm air and moist gas goes directly to the cooler glass sticking the black soot to the glass or turning it a milky colour. Carefully remove the glass and clean it with liquid Turtle Wax.

It's Just That Easy.
