- Preparing a garage door for painting

Dear Shell,

We purchased a house in this town 2 years ago, that we are busy trying to fix up on the outside. Garage door is plywood and had some sort of Cedar looking stain or varnish on it that has all peeled off. Door faces the west. Very windy here and usually blows from the west. We have just finished sanding it all and we want to paint or solid stain it. Know we have to prime, but need a good weather beater paint. Any suggestions?

Thanks, Linda

Dear Linda,

Remove weather-stripping along the bottom of the door to ensure paint gets on all raw wood surfaces. Wash the door using Shell Busey's Home Cleaning Formula and rinse well. Prime inside and out using best quality alkyd exterior primer. Finish with exterior best quality acrylic latex paint. Caulk around all panels on the inside of door using clear acrylic latex caulking. Replace bottom weather-stripping.

It's just that easy.
