- Geothermal heating

Dear Shell,

With the rise in natural gas rates effective July 1st, the heating system you use in your new home, geothermal, is it worthwhile looking into? I understand there are two types, well and loops underground. If you are on well water, can you use the well for this type of heating as well, dual purpose? Do you have experienced people in the lower mainland that can answer these questions, a lot of people have not heard of this type of system. You said that it was too expensive for retrofitting, but now with the gas increase, is it worth looking at?

Thanks, Jody

Dear Jody,

Depending on the age of the home and the air duct design, it could very well be economical to look into. Yes you can use a well or ponds under some circumstances. I chose vertical wells because of our building lot. Tonight as I write these notes to you we are enjoying 21 degrees C inside when it was 32 degrees C all day outside. Great air conditioning. Call Water Furnace at 1-800-436-7283 or Solace Energy in Burnaby 291 0342 they did ours.

It's just that easy.
