  • Dear Shell,

I have a 12 years old trailer, and the skirting is starting to rot. I would like to know how to change it and what material to use, so the skirting will last more then 10 years. I live in Northern Ontario. We have 6 months of winter. We get about 200 mm of rain in the summer.

    Thanks, Eric

    Dear Eric,

Frame your skirt using pressure treated lumber. Apply reflective foil insulation on the inside of 2x4 skirt frame using a staple gun. On the outside apply either treated plywood or coloured steel. Both will give many years of service. Treated plywood may be painted to match trailer colour using exterior alkyd primer then apply acrylic latex as a finish coat.

    It’s just that easy.
