  • Dear Shell,

I was wondering if it is recommended to "flush" out my Hot Water Heater periodically. Any tips?

    Thanks, Lynn

    Dear Lynn,

Flushing your natural gas hot water tank on a regular basis (4-6 months) is good as a residual build up of sand and other heavy contaminates will settle to the bottom affecting the boiler system. Attach a garden hose to the flush out bib at the bottom of your tank with the other end in the laundry sink or a drain. Turn hose bib on and allow to run until the water runs clear (normally 10-20 litres of water) shut off bib. Note: Electric tanks should also be flushed every 8-12 months.

    It’s just that easy.
