  • Dear Shell,

We have a shake roof going on 19 years and not looking the best. Moss build up on one side and the other looks very old and worn. What is the average age for a shake roof (thin shakes it looks like to me)? Can you pressure wash them and apply a sealer or?

    Thanks, Darren

    Dear Darren,

    1. For moss removal use Thomson Spray Services 525-5113. They do not use High Pressure and a moss removing solution is used.

    2. Average life of cedar roof is 15 – 20 years if “A” grade. Lesser grades i.e. Barn shakes may only last 10 – 15 years.

    3. You are on the edge of replacement.

    It’s just that easy.
