  • Dear Shell,

How do we care for pine floors? They were oiled several years ago, and not stained nor finished. They are in good shape. How can we clean off the last of the oil and then finish?

    Thanks, Marlene

    Dear Marlene,

Scrub the floor with mineral spirits using a synthetic scrub pad on a floor scrubber. NOTE: This must be done in a well-vented room with no standing pilot lights on such as the gas furnace or hot water tank. Rinse the residue up with warm water and a mop, and allow to dry. Apply three coats of water-based urethane allowing 12 to 18 hours curing time between coats.

    It’s just that easy.
