  • Dear Shell,

How do you remove foam-backed carpet from a basement floor? The house was built in 1958. There is old tile or lino under the carpet, probably from the 1960's.

    Thanks, Brent

    Dear Brent,

    5. Remove the top surface of carpet by tearing away from the foam back. (This process is normally very simple to accomplish.) Some of the foam backing will remain.

    6. Pour Bio Wash “Foam Off” on the surface and roll into foam using a long handle paint roller, totally saturating the foam. Let sit for 30 to 45 minutes. Then scrape residual off using a long handle drywall mud scraper. For information on Foam Off call 1-800-858-5011.

    It’s just that easy.
