- Upgrading insulation

Dear Shell,

What is the best insulation to put down when changing siding? The walls are 2x4 with fiberglass (batt) insulation and spruce plywood on the outside with vapour barrier and gyproc on the inside. If we were to leave the vinyl siding on that we have now, is there a paint to change the color that would last?

Thanks, Maureen

Dear Maureen,

To upgrade wall insulation on the outside consider using Dow Styrofoam Cladmate with rabetted edge allowing 1x4 strapping to be inserted for nailers to apply your new siding. Painting vinyl siding is easy. Wash with Shell Busey Home Cleaning Formula and rinse well. Using best quality Ecologic Cloverdale Paint select a colour no darker then the current shade. Paint lengthwise on the wall no up and down always keep a wet edge.

It's just that easy.
