Water heater leak

Worried about your water heater springing a leak?

One of the worst things to come home to can be a leaking water heater. Speak to anyone who has experienced coming home to a flood caused by a leaking water heater and they will tell you it is something to avoid at all costs. There are a number of products available to alert you to a leak in your tank by sounding an alarm or even setting off your homes burgular alarm. The Floodstopper leak detector goes one step further. It actually shuts off the water to your home if a leak is detected, preventing large scale flooding damage and massive insurance claims.

The floodstopper leak detector comes with sensors that can be placed where potential leaks could happen. Good locatons include your water heater, toilets, dishwasher, washing machine and near any other water using appliance. The sensors are mounted just above the floor and once they detect moisture they send a signal to the control unit. The control unit then sends a signal to the honeywell valve that shuts off the water supply to the home, effectively stopping the leak. An audible alarm will also sound to let you know this has occured. Once you return home, or hear the alarm you can fix the leak at your leisure and then it only takes a quick press of the reset button to have your water running again. If you're going to be delayed in fixing the leak then you can simply turn off the water at the leaking appliance and turn on the water to the rest of your home.

Prevent a water heater leak

The best way to prevent a water heater leak is routine maintenance. Make sure that you read your water heaters owners manual and follow the guidelines closely. It may also be a good idea to install a water purification system or water softener if you have hard water, as this can cause a traditional water tank to have a much shorter life span.
