- Wheezing furnace

Dear Shell,

We recently had our furnace cleaned, and it's now making a wheezing noise when it is running. We've always had a bit of a problem with this and the furnace people said it was because it wasn't getting enough cold air, so we had an extra cold air vent installed in the downstairs hallway. When we remove the door in the front of the furnace, the wheezing stops completely. I'm just wondering why it is worse after the cleaning, and would it be OK to duct tape the space around the front of the furnace door to make it more airtight? This appears to be the cause of the wheezing (according to my husband).

Thanks, Mary Ann

Dear Mary Ann,

No duct tape please!! Please look up your certified furnace technician, preferably one who services your brand name to ascertain the problem. From here I would be only guessing and I don't want to guess when you may have a carbon monoxide concern as well. Please call your local furnace technician or ATCO Gas.

It's just that easy.
